Avett Brothers Join Rick Rubin At Columbia
August 13, 2008 - Rock and Pop

By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

The Avett Brothers have signed with Rick Rubin's American Recordings label via Columbia, and will release their label debut next year.

The eclectic North Carolina group has recorded its entire career for tiny Ramseur Records, selling more than 121,000 copies of its releases since 2003, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Avett Brothers' latest album, 2007's "Emotionalism," is its best-seller to date at 45,000. Last month, the group issued a new EP, "Second Gleam," which debuted at a career-best No. 82 on The Billboard 200.

The Avett Brothers have tour dates on tap through September, including an appearance Friday (Aug. 17) at the Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Music Festival.
