Fonovisa Marketing Director Arciniega Dies
August 04, 2008 - Latin

By Leila Cobo, Miami

Roberto Arciniega, the longtime marketing director for Fonovisa Records, passed away Aug. 1 in his California home. He was 58. The cause of death was unknown at press time, although sources say Arciniega had recently stayed home sick with the flu.

A creative man of dry wit, Arciniega brought impeccable taste and thoughtfulness to the creative campaigns of a wide range of artists. Most recently, he developed and designed the artistic concept for compilations by Los Tigres del Norte and Los Temerarios and for Marco Anotoio Solí's "La Historia Continúa" set.

Arciniega, who had already spent several years at Fonovisa, joined Universal Music Group following the company's acquisition of Univision Music Group this summer.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Arciniega will be remembered as a gentleman with a love of knowledge and travel who was unfailingly gracious in all aspects of the music business.

"Roberto was a dedicated employee always looking to go the extra mile for our artists and his company mates," said Gustavo López, president of Disa and Fonovisa. "His passing is a loss for us, both personally and professionally."
