Shannon Noll Departs Sony Down Under
January 05, 2010 - Global | Country

By Lars Brandle, Brisbane

Australian multi-platinum, chart-topping regular Shannon Noll has parted ways with Sony Music Australia, drawing curtains on a six-year association which yielded an estimated 1.2 million album sales.

Noll's star rose when he contested the 2003 season of "Australian Idol." Although the pop-country singer finished runner-up to eventual winner Guy Sebastian, Sony Music Australia signed the singer and guided him through the transition from reality-TV challenger into credible artist.

Sony and Noll scored a massive hit the following year with the artist's debut album "That's What I'm Talking About," which shifted 350,000 units, good for seven-times platinum.

The singer, who was raised in the Australian outback town of Condobolin in New South Wales, has the enviable distinction of having landed 10 consecutive top 10 hit singles, including five No. 1s in his homeland. His three albums have sold 11 times platinum combined.

Noll treaded the boards under a different guise last year when he spent a chunk of the northern summer reprising the role of Parson Nathaniel for the U.K. and European summer tour of Jeff Wayne's "War Of The Worlds."

He's currently touring Australia on a bill which features rock legend Jimmy Barnes and country star Adam Brand.

Noll's Sydney-based manager Nicole Hart of Revolutions Per Minute says the split with Sony Music was amicable, and that Noll would weigh up his options with other labels.
