Fontana Takes Cooperative Route
October 08, 2008 - Indies | Global

By Cortney Harding, NYC

Universal Music Group's independent distribution arm Fontana has expanded its U.S. label division Fontana International through a partnership with U.K.-based international marketing & distribution unit Cooperative Music.

Cooperative Music is a multi-territory structure, set up in April 2005 initially as a division of V2 Music Group, which licenses independent labels for release in Europe, Australia and Japan. V2 Music Group was acquired by Universal Music last year.

The first release under the new agreement will be the upcoming album from Travis, "Ode to J. Smith," which will be released in the United States on Nov. 4 on the Scottish pop/rock band's own imprint, Red Telephone Box. Following this will be the Nov. 18 release of the U.S. sophomore effort from Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, "Sunday at Devil Dirt."
