Dick Sherman, a longtime industry sales executive, died in Las Vegas on July 2, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80.
Sherman began his music industry career in the mid-1950s as a regional sales representative for CBS Records and then went on to work for many other labels, including Mercury Records, Warner Bros., Bell Records and a couple of stints at Motown Records, all in a sales capacity.
He also worked at Boardwalk and was the head of sales at Casablanca during the label's heyday in the 1970's. In the 1980's he became an independent consultant, until he retired to Las Vegas in about 1987.
Sherman, a World War II veteran, "was one of the most respected men of his era in distribution and sales," according to former Billboard columnist John Sippel.
He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Andrea, son Robert, and two grandchildren.
