-- The Seattle Weekly tells a story of how Sub Pop Records kinda/sorta considered signing Buena Vista Social Club. In 1996, Jon Kertzer and SubPop founder Jonathan Poneman went to Los Angeles to hear recordings Ry Cooder and Nick Gold had made in Cuba. Kertzer was very interested, but the conversation did not go very far. “Truthfully,” he admitted, “Sub Pop would not have been prepared to seriously undertake a project of that scope. It all ended up going to the right label, a great label: Nonesuch.” And the rest is history. Buena Vista Social Club was a huge success for Nonesuch and Warner Music Group, revived interested in traditional Cuban music and launched a number of solo careers. (Seattle Weekly))

-- Live Nation has launched a concert promotion division in Germany. Promoter Johannes Wessels has been named managing director of Live Nation Germany. (EU Ticket News)

The untitled comedy series will be produced and distributed worldwide by E1, which along with Simmons and Stanley will handle all licensing and merchandising for the half hour. (THR)
