AEG Live Acquires Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia

AEG Live, the concert promotion arm of Los Angeles-based AEG, has acquired the 1,350-capacity Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 80-year-old venue's existing staff will stay intact under the direction of GM Judith Herbst and senior talent buyer Roy Snyder. They will work closely with Jon Hampton, who serves as AEG Live's senior talent buyer for the Philadelphia region.
"As we expand our national footprint, AEG Live has always valued great real estate as the anchor for that expansion," AEG Live president/CEO Randy Phillips said in a statement. "The opportunity of stewarding this beautiful theatre as we enter the Philadelphia market is a rare opportunity for a company like ours."
The Keswick Theatre was previously owned by promoter Jack Utsick and his companies, Worldwide Entertainment and Entertainment Group Fund.
Since last year, AEG Live has expanded its portfolio of mid-size venues in the United States. In January 2007 the company acquired the 1,700-capacity Royal Oaks Music Theatre in Michigan, which was followed by the purchase of Seattle's famed Showbox clubs in December.
AEG Live also owns or operates such mid-size venues as the El Rey Theatre and Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Bluebird Theater in Colorado, Nokia Theatre Times Square in New York, Nokia Theatre in Texas, WaMu Theater in Seattle, the Warfield in San Francisco, and the Joint and the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, among others.
