'Green Day: Rock Band' Release Date Set
March 11, 2010 - Digital and Mobile

By Antony Bruno, Denver

“Green Day: Rock Band,” MTV’s follow up to “The Beatles: Rock Band,” will be released June 8. It will be available on all game consoles, including the Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and Wii.

Like the Beatles game, it will support three-part vocal harmonies, something MTV is particularly proud of developing. Unlike the Beatles game, it will not include Green Day-branded instruments, or any bundled instruments for that matter, as part of MTV’s strategy to move away from selling expensive new controllers and focus instead on software. The game will be compatible with all existing Rock Band controllers, as well as that from the rival Guitar Hero series.

There are two version of the Green Day game. The standard version contains 47 Green Day tracks spanning the group’s entire career, along with 100 unlockable images and 40 minutes of rare and unreleased video from interviews, outtakes and performances. All tracks are exportable from the Green Day game to the existing versions of the Rock Band franchise, and the six Green Day tracks already available for download via the Rock Band Music Store can be played in the game as well.

The standard version will cost $60 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, while the Wii version costs $50. A premium version of the game includes special packaging and a voucher to download the six Green Day tracks in the Rock Band store. That version will be priced at $70.

In addition to the music, the game of course features the likenesses of all bandmembers. Gamers can choose which bandmember to play as. As reported earlier, MTV and developer Harmonix plans to release the next iteration of the Rock Band franchise, Rock Band 3, by the holidays.
